Detailed Construction and Finishing Process for Custom Terrazzo:
3.1.6 Inlaid Grid Strips:
Cement paste is applied with a small iron trowel to install and secure grid strips in a consistent 30° "eight" shape. These strips must be tightly connected with no visible gaps. At intersection points, grout is intentionally withheld within 40–50mm to allow full bonding of the mixture.
3.1.11 Trial Grinding:
After 2–3 days of curing at 20–30°C, trial grinding begins. This stage confirms readiness and ensures surface particles stay intact, avoiding premature or delayed polishing issues.
3.1.12 Coarse Grinding:
Using 60–90 grit diamond abrasives, the surface is ground in a figure-8 motion. Water is applied continuously, and cement slurry is cleaned off regularly. This reveals grid strips and stone particles. Missing particles are repaired, and the layer is cured for 2–3 days.
3.1.13 Fine Grinding:
With 90–120 grit diamond abrasives, a smooth finish is achieved. A second application of cement slurry fills any micro-pores. Another 2–3 days of curing ensures strength and finish integrity.
3.1.14 Polishing:
A final polish using 200 grit fine diamonds ensures a flat, pore-free surface with evenly exposed stones and a clean finish. High-grade terrazzo can undergo additional custom polishing passes based on design requirements.
